L2: Empuraan – A Fanboy’s Dream Come True
It’s been a while where I did movie review, I recently saw the movie Empuraan. When L2: Empuraan was announced in 2021, I was beyond excited. The sequel to Lucifer, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and starring the legendary Mohanlal, was something I had been eagerly waiting for. And finally, after years of anticipation, the movie hit the big screens. Watching it in theaters, especially in its IMAX remastered version, was an absolute treat! It was a larger-than-life cinematic experience, filled with grandeur, action, and drama. This movie is truly a fanboy’s dream, bringing back the Complete Actor, Mohanlal, in full fire mode!
What I Loved About the Movie
One of the things that immediately struck me was the making of the film. Prithviraj has once again proven himself to be a master storyteller, delivering a movie that is visually stunning and intense. The action sequences, especially when viewed in IMAX, were an absolute blast. Every frame felt meticulously crafted, ensuring that the audience was completely immersed in the world of Empuraan.
Mohanlal’s screen presence was unparalleled, and his character arc in this sequel felt more powerful and complex. The way Prithviraj handled the story, balancing both emotional depth and high-energy action, made the film even more engaging. The background score was another highlight, elevating every scene and making the mass moments even more thrilling.
Goosebumps Moments That Hit Hard
The moment that gave me ultimate goosebumps was right after the internal fight sequence, leading to the grand introduction of Mohanlal and Prithviraj. That scene was nothing short of epic.
The way Mohanlal enters the frame with his signature aura, combined with the electrifying music, was a mass moment for the ages. Prithviraj’s character also had a terrific buildup, making their joint presence on screen one of the biggest highlights of the film. The cinematography, the slow-motion shots, and the background score all came together perfectly to amplify the intensityof that scene.
I could literally feel the energy inside the theater—people were cheering, clapping, and whistling. That’s when you know a movie has truly struck a chord with the audience.
Why Are People Degrading the Film?
One thing I don’t quite understand is why so many people are nitpicking and degrading the film. When the movie was announced in 2021, fans were eagerly waiting. But now that it’s finally here, some people are finding the smallest things to criticize.
Before watching the film, I saw some mixed reviews, but instead of being influenced by them, I wanted to see the overall picture for myself. After watching it, I couldn’t help but wonder—why are people so focused on minor details?
- Some are saying the character played by Antony Perumbavoor was silly and that his dialogues were weak. But honestly, I didn’t think it was that bad.
- Another group is making fun of the “Dragon” character, comparing him to an uncle selling fried rice. I’m not sure if they meant it as a joke or if they were being serious, but the actor playing that role is actually a well-respected actor in America!
- Some politicians are taking it personally, criticizing the film for reasons beyond just cinema. But I feel that Prithviraj simply wanted to create his dream project and tell the story the way he envisioned it. At the end of the day, a movie should be watched as a movie.
In one of the news debates, Secret Agent Sai Krishna referenced a scene from CID Moosa where Jagathy’s character says, "It was aiming and only me." That really made me think—it’s true! Some criticisms feel so forced, as if people just wanted to find faults in an otherwise brilliant film.
Looking Ahead to "L3: AZRAEL"
Anticipation is already building for the next installment in the series, tentatively titled "L3: AZRAEL." While the official announcement is slated for a later date, various sources have begun discussing the film's direction. The name 'Azrael' carries significant connotations, often associated with the Angel of Death in various cultural and religious contexts. This choice hints at a potentially darker and more intense narrative, promising to delve deeper into the complexities introduced in the previous films.
Conclusion: A Must-Watch Film for Fans
At its core, L2: Empuraan is an excellent movie and a true fanboy film. Watching Mohanlal back on screen in full fire mode was an absolute delight. Yes, it has its flaws—like any film does—but the overall experience was cinematic brilliance.
To all those who haven’t watched it yet, I highly recommend experiencing it in theaters, especially in IMAX if possible. And for those who have already watched it, let me know—what were your thoughts on the movie? Did you love it, or did you find yourself on the side of the critics?
For me, L2: Empuraan was everything I wanted it to be—a grand, intense, and action-packed sequel that delivered on all fronts. Don’t miss it in theatres 🔥
